Reverse Engineering

A hands-on event where teams inspect a disassembled electronic gadget (e.g., remote control, sensor board, toy car circuit), spot parts, trace power tracks, and deduce its purpose.

Format / Team Team (2 to 3 members)
Duration 45 minutes
Venue 📍 Hardware Lab / Classroom

CHALLENGE STAGES

STAGE 1

Stage 1 — Component Spotting

Identify basic components on the PCB like resistors, capacitors, switches, LEDs, and ICs.

STAGE 2

Stage 2 — Tracing the Path

Trace the power lines and basic input and output connections across the board.

STAGE 3

Stage 3 — Function Guess

Write down a short 3-line explanation of what the device does and what each main part is for.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Teams must consist of 2 to 3 members.
  • Mobile phones and external lookup tools are strictly prohibited.
  • Points are awarded for each correctly named component and an accurate guess of the gadget’s purpose.
  • No damaging, breaking, or pulling parts off the provided board.

SCORING AND EVALUATION

  • Points per verified component identified.
  • Accuracy and depth of the functional block diagram explanation.
