Circuit Crime Scene

A hardware troubleshooting event where participants act as electronics detectives. Teams are given a breadboard circuit with a deliberate fault — loose wire, blown LED, wrong resistor, or reversed diode — and must spot and fix it.

Format / Team Team (2 to 4 members)
Duration 45 minutes
Venue 📍 Electronics Lab

CHALLENGE STAGES

STAGE 1

Stage 1 — The Clue Sheet

Read the case file clues and perform a quick visual inspection of the breadboard setup.

STAGE 2

Stage 2 — Fault Finding

Use a digital multimeter to verify continuity, test resistor values, and inspect supply rails.

STAGE 3

Stage 3 — The Fix

Replace faulty components from the parts tray and power on the functional circuit.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Teams must consist of 2 to 4 members.
  • Only standard lab tools (multimeter, breadboards, jumper wires) provided by coordinators may be used.
  • Points are awarded for identifying the exact fault and getting the output to work (e.g., LED glowing, buzzer beeping).
  • Minor negative marks apply for asking coordinators for a hint.
  • The fastest team to correctly fix the circuit wins.

SCORING AND EVALUATION

  • Accuracy in fault identification and working circuit restoration.
  • Time taken and deduction for hint requests.
